Jack Sutphen owned Loafer and sailed her in San Diego harbor. Jack had worked as coach and skipper of the Dennis Connor trial horses. Jack bought the boat from Ron Render, who got her from a John Burton of South Boston in January of 1990. John had got it from a school teacher who had owned her for about 15-20 years. The schoolteacher bought her from Bill Harding, who used her as one of the boats to take lines from for the Doughdish. Jack passed away in early 2013, and possession of the boat transferred to his good friend John DeForest.
